How To Stop Sweaty Hands (admin posted on March 21st, 2012 )

Sweaty hands might seem a trivial problem, but only for those who have never experience it in their lives. For those having to face it daily, it is pretty serious and it can interfere with the most insignificant tasks they have to perform. Sweaty hands can make you scared of meeting someone because you will have to shake hands. In business meetings, but in personal ones also, it can be pretty embarrassing. Simply writing something down can be difficult, not to mention playing racket sports.

Depending on the severity of the condition, sufferers can really go through ordeals both at work and at home. Some of them can’t even type something on a keyboard because of their sweaty hands. Common tasks that other people perform automatically can become challenging and frustrating for people with sweaty hands.

You might imagine that this problem is pretty rare, but in fact, it affects one person in one hundred. It is very frustrating especially that it tends to occur in teenage years. This is a delicate time in everybody’s life because teenagers are very sensitive about anything. Sweaty hands can cause great embarrassment and can ruin the fragile balance in a teenager’s life. Convincing the girl or the boy you like to go out together might seem impossible and the self-confidence drops significantly. Unfortunately, as sufferers become adults, things don’t necessarily get better. It is not about impressing boys or girls anymore, although finding a partner is not at all to be neglected, but about going to interviews and meeting people who might impact professional life. Offering a sweaty hand to a potential employer is sure not going to make a good impression.

Many people will realize that their sweaty hands are strongly connected with their levels of anxiety. The more anxious they get, the more severe their problem becomes. Unfortunately, as they see their hands sweating, they get even more anxious, so they enter a hard to break vicious circle.

There are several ways to fight sweaty hands. The right solution mainly depends on the severity of the condition, but here’s what you can try:

  • If sweaty hands become worse when you are stressed or anxious, try to find the source of these problems and eliminate it.
  • There are natural remedies that you can try for sweaty hands. Their efficacy might differ from person to person, so it is basically a trial and error process. If nothing is effective in your case, then you might consider more invasive solutions.
  • Botox injections – this is probably the most invasive option for getting rid of sweaty hands. Botox is injected in the overactive sweat glands and it “puts them to sleep”. The treatment is effective for up to half a year. It needs to be repeated in time and it causes a certain amount of pain.
  • Iontophoresis – instead of using an injection for stopping the activity of the sweat glands, this technique makes use of an electric charge. The medicine is delivered through it and the same effect as in botox injection is obtained, only without using any needle. The technique uses an iontophoretic chamber in which the sufferer puts his or hers hands.
